Professional Scrum Master FAQs
The Professional Scrum Master course (PSM course) is a 2-day foundation Scrum Master training course that trains you on the principles and theory of the Scrum framework. The Professional Scrum Master level 1 (PSM 1) assessment is available to anyone who wishes to validate his/her depth of knowledge of Scrum. Taking a course is not required to get PSM certified but PSM course is highly recommended.
Yes! The PSM certification exam is well known to be difficult/challenging. It is hard to pass… indeed in 60 minutes (the time limit for the PSM exam) you must answer 80 multiple choice and true/false questions and get a 85% passing score. This is very high. It therefore requires very good awareness of Scrum, the Scrum framework, the roles, events and artifacts.
Reading the Scrum Guide and taking the Open Assessments alone isn’t typically enough preparation to pass the PSM certification exam. You will need to either attend an official Professional Scrum Master course or go through a process of structured self-learning.
