The AEF course provides an introduction to tools and techniques for achieving accurate estimates of Agile work, as well as introducing content from Allan Kelly’s Xanpan – Team centric Agile software development, a cross between XP and Kanban. The learning is completed by reviewing and learning from best practices related to estimating/forecasting (drawn from the real-world).

This AEF course also focuses on how to look at popular working practices that build on estimating and forecasting, including charts, and cumulative flow diagrams.

Trainees on the Agile estimating & forecasting course are challenged to improve their ability to undertake estimation more accurately than traditional methods, and also better understand what to do when they return to their workplaces. 

Topics

The overall aim of the Agile Estimating & Forecasting (AEF) course is to increase the ability to estimate and forecasting in an Agile delivery environment. The objectives are as follows:

  1. Learn how to make estimates and forecasts using story points on Agile teams;
  2. Develop an understanding of how to improve forecasts, avoid common mistakes, and plan for unplanned work;
  3. Learn how to track, read and update progress using burn-down, burn-up, and simple cumulative-flow diagram (CFD);
  4. Understand the 3 planning horizons & the different forecasting approaches to each.

Agile Estimating & Forecasting Certification

All participants completing the Agile Estimating & Forecasting course will receive a password to attempt the AEF certification assessment. The first, second, and third AEF assessment attempts are FREE as it includes them in the course’s cost. If trainees take the first AEF assessment within 21 days of the end of the class and do not achieve the 80% certification score, they get 2 free re-attempts. Further USM assessment attempts would cost £30.
